Quality
We constantly aim to produce foods of consistent high quality, in accordance with European standards for quality, food security and animal welfare. Likewise, our products are stored and transported in accordance with European standards with the aim to ensure food security and traceability as well as the best possible preservation of the product’s quality, taste and nutrients.
Conservation Agriculture
The reduced CO2 emissions created by no-till is primarily due to the limited tillage of the land and reduced erosion hereof as well as the reduced use of fossil fuel, all of which generally is not only sustainable but also cost-effective. Furthermore, we seek to improve the amount and quality of the top soil by no-till and the use of cover crops increasing the amount of organic material and thereby its capabilities to preserve water and nutrients which not only mitigate the risks related to climate change but also ensure adaptation to climate change.

NEFCO (Nordic Environmental Finance Corporation) which has provided finance to the company, describes in a press release AgroSkandia’s environmental benefits to the region. As a part of our sustainability goals we seek to preserve parts of our land as natural habitats for wildlife, especially around water holes and wet areas.
AgroSkandia work closely together with Agreena to register and verify the CO2 stored on our land while producing crops.
Climate change
We will mitigate the increasing risks connected with climate change by focusing on:
Proper drainage
We work to clean canals and repair drainage pipes to improve the growing depth for the plants.
Improvement of the humus content of the soil
We preserve and improve the topsoil’s content of humus to enhance the soil’s ability to store water during dry seasons and nutrition during heavy rainfall. Also, a larger humus content in the soil improves the habitat for earthworms and thereby provides a more favorable environment for plant root growth.
No-till seeding
We use no-till seeding and cover crops to the extent possible to reduce the CO2 emissions and thereby ensure preservation of the humus content in the topsoil. No-till seeding also reduces the disturbance of the living conditions for earthworms and thereby increases the number of earthworms. Furthermore, this minimizes the fuel consumption and other costs per produced ton of grain.
Weather resistant crops
We focus on growing crops with a long growth season and thereby larger root systems as this minimizes the risks connected with extreme weather conditions including periods of drought.
Properness and Corporate Social Responsibility
We aspire to act in a proper manner in all aspects of the business and comply with international corporate social responsibility standards. This means that we are focused on creating an attractive working environment, where the employees are treated properly, trained in agricultural skills after Scandinavian principles and where mutual trust and respect is central. Our main focus is on being a trustworthy and reliable business partner.
Finally, we aim to act in a socially responsible manner as part of the local community and society. We have established a fund with allocated means with the purpose of assisting financially or otherwise with valid projects in the local communities. As an example, we have financed a new water pump for the village Babushkino and we assist in the ongoing renovation of the local community house in Yasnaya Polyana. Every year, we assist the local foster home economically to provide them with the means to arrange trips and celebrate Christmas and New Year with the children.
